    Faculty Fellowships and Professorships

    • Barbara B. and Bertram J. Cohn Professorship in Environmental Studies

      Established by Bertram J. Cohn in 1999 in celebration of Barbara Biard Cohn’s eight-year tenure as a trustee of Sarah Lawrence College. The goal of the professorship is to raise awareness in the College community of a broad spectrum of environmental issues. The holder of the professorship, to be appointed annually or on a multiyear basis, shall teach undergraduates and may also teach in the graduate programs. The appointee will work with others in the College to develop an environmental program to include the possibility of an annual lecture series and student placements in environmental agencies. Charles Zerner (Environmental Studies) is the current holder of the professorship.
    • Shirley Kaplan Faculty Scholar in Theatre

      Established in 2005 in recognition of Sarah Lawrence College's commitment to the field of Theatre and Music, and to honor an outstanding professor whose humanity, wisdom and love of teaching have had a profound impact on the entire campus community. The current scholar is Shirley Kaplan.
    • Hyman H. Kleinman Fellowship in the Humanities

      This endowed fellowship was established in 1999 by Ella Foshay ’69 to honor faculty member emeritus Hyman H. Kleinman, who taught literature at the College from 1964 to 1984 and “whose humanity, wisdom, and love of teaching have had a profound impact on hundreds of students, young and old, during a teaching lifetime spanning more than five decades.” The fellowship is to be awarded on a three- to five-year basis to a recently tenured member of the humanities faculty. Emily Katz Anhalt (Classics, Greek, Latin) is the current holder of the fellowship.
    • Marjorie Leff Miller Faculty Scholar in Music

      This endowed fund was established by Morgan and Marjorie Leff Miller ’53 in recognition of Ms. Miller’s enduring relationship with the College and in appreciation of her experience as a student in the Music program. The fund celebrates the teachers and performers who inspire our music students today and supports a selected faculty member in the Music program. The current scholar is Martin Goldray (Music).
    • The William Schuman Scholar in Music

      This chair was established in 1994 in honor of William Schuman (1910-92), composer, member of the Sarah Lawrence faculty from 1935 to 1945, president of The Juilliard School from 1945 to 1962, and founding president of Lincoln Center. The William Schuman Scholar in Music is John Yannelli (Music).
