    Social Security

Under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA), the College and the employee contribute equally to provide Social Security benefits to the employee. General information about Social Security benefits is available in the Human Resources Office. For information about specific personal or family situations, consult your local Social Security Office or their web site.

Initiation of Social Security benefits is not automatic. Therefore, it is important to contact your local Social Security Office approximately three months before you plan to retire. Even if you do not plan to retire, you should contact your local Social Security Office three months before your 65th birthday in order to discuss Medicare coverage. Information about medical coverage of employees and their spouses age 65 and over is available in the Human Resources Office.
