    Alcohol and Other Drug Education

Sarah Lawrence College regards the illegal use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs as problems that affect our community. It is important that students, faculty, and staff be aware of the College’s Alcohol and Other Drug Policy which can be found in the Student Handbook. In addition, New York State laws and City of Yonkers ordinances can be found in the handbook.

The College does accord those of legal age (21) the privilege to drink alcohol responsibly on campus following the aforementioned guidelines.

    Alcohol-Wise

Alcohol-Wise is a Web-based alcohol education program designed to assist students in making healthy decisions regarding alcohol use in college. The program takes one to two hours to complete and includes information on:

    • how expectations influence behavior
    • alcohol's effect on learning and memory
    • recognizing and responding to an alcohol-related emergency
    • blood alcohol concentration and low-risk drinking strategies

Based on students' responses to a confidential questionnaire at the beginning of the program, Alcohol-Wise provides personalized information based on gender and drinking behavior. Alcohol-Wise is relevant to students who drink and those who abstain from alcohol.

Students can access Alcohol-Wise using any computer with internet and audio capabilities. All incoming first-year students will receive an e-mail from 3rd Millennium Classrooms with detailed access instructions for Alcohol-Wise. If you are an incoming first year student and have not received an email from 3rd Millennium Classrooms, please contact Health Services at 914-395-2350.
