The Monika A. and Charles A. Heimbold, Jr. Visual Arts Center was designed with large exhibition areas for student art, but other bright open spaces-such as stairwells and walls swept by natural light-have been appropriated as well to display the creative inspirations of Sarah Lawrence students. "We have designated student and class galleries, but it's not uncommon for work to pop up in unexpected places-hanging from the skylights or installed in the dropped ceilings of hallways," says Visual Arts Administrative Assistant Chad Stayrook. "At the end-of-the-year open house, the HVAC becomes one large gallery, almost museum-like."
