    We remember the following faculty who were vital members of the Sarah Lawrence community:

    Faculty Emerita Jane Cooper, who taught writing, literature, and poetry from 1950 to 1987, died October 26, 2007. Click here for a tribute to Cooper.

    Frank Melville, member of the Board of Trustees from 1981–89 and honorary trustee since 1994, died on December 5, 2007.

    Elspeth Rostow, who taught history and politics from 1945–47 and was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1951–58, died on December 9, 2007.

    Arthur Sainer, who taught theatre from 1991–98, died on November 18, 2007.

    Ray Seidelman, who taught political science from 1982 to 2007, died on October 30, 2007. Click here for a tribute to Seidelman.

    Laurence F. Whittemore, a trustee from 1988 to 2000, honorary trustee thereafter, and parent of three SLC alumnae, passed away on December 24, 2007.
