    Speak, Memory

    Alice M. Greenwald portrait

Alice M. Greenwald ’73 was recently named the director of the World Trade Center Memorial Museum, which will be built in the footprint of the twin towers. As director, Greenwald will design the museum and its exhibits, recounting tales of life in the towers, the events of September 11, 2001, and the aftermath of the disaster. It's a tough job, but as the former associate museum director for the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., Greenwald knows the value-and potential pitfalls-of museums that remember difficult history. “I'm deeply humbled by the privilege and responsibility” of designing the museum, she said. She hopes that the museum will demonstrate “the healing power of memory” as it retells the stories, both personal and collective, of those whose lives were lost at the site.
