    Human Genetics Poster Session

Every spring, students in the Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics participate in a Science Poster Session, where they showcase their work in a specific area. Posters are used to briefly communicate the major points of students' research to colleagues with a general education in their field, but with no knowledge of the specific project. Posters are intended to stand on their own, but it is also usual for the creator to give a short (less than five minutes) presentation utilizing the poster to people showing interest.

During the spring 2009 Poster Session, Human Genetics students presented research on a variety of topics, including:

    • Albinism in Tanzania
    • Autism Spectrum Disorders in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
    • Clinical Genetic Testing of Children with Autism: A Survey of Current Genetic Services Among Healthcare Professionals
    • The Epigenetics of Fragile X Syndrome: A Closer Look at the Heterochromatinization of the FMR1 Allele
    • The Family Health History: What Good Is It?
    • Genetic Counseling for Adults with Non-Syndromic Congenital Heart Defects
    • Pioneering Genetic Counseling in Northern Jordan: A Study of the Population's Knowledge and Perspectives
    • Recruiting Future Genetic Counselors at a Career Fair Focused on Diversity
    • Reproductive Care of Women with Four Serious Genetic Conditions: Cystic Fibrosis, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Disease, Spina Bifida
    • U.S. Primary Care Providers' Continuing Genetics Education Needs: A Survey and Literature Review

These posters are available to read as a PDF download.
